The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College (Traverse City) has been awarded a $13,985 Public Humanities Development grant to support a traveling exhibition titled "Pursuits and Pleasures: Baroque Paintings from the Detroit Institute of Arts."The exhibit will showcase some of the Detroit Institute of Arts' finest 17th and 18th century paintings in four Michigan locations (Traverse City, Kalamazoo, East Lansing, Muskegon). A full-color catalogue, CD-Rom and permanent website will be created to accompany the exhibit. The dates and locations of the exhibit are:

  • June 28, 2003 - Sept. 14, 2003. Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City.
  • Sept. 28, 2003 - Jan. 4, 2004. Kalamazoo Institute of Art, Kalamazoo.
  • Jan. 14, 2004 - Mar. 14, 2004. Kresge Art Museum, Michigan State University, East Lansing.
  • Apr. 10, 2004 - July 4, 2004. Muskegon Museum of Art, Muskegon.

The opportunity to showcase these works is made possible by the closing of the European Galleries at the DIA for renovation and expansion project. The Michigan Old Masters Consortium (Kresge Art Museum, Dennos Museum Center, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and Muskegon Museum of Art) has been working since spring 2001 with each museum taking responsibility for a different aspect of the exhibition planning and implementation. By sharing curatorial and educational expertise, the exhibition and its programming will reach across the state to thousands of people from school children to seniors. This is an unprecedented opportunity for Michigan’s citizens to enjoy this spectacular collection in regional centers of the state capable of housing this collection.
