Congregation Shaarey Zedek has been awarded a $9,432 Local Network grant for "Varian Fry and the Michigan Jewish Community." The project will bring to mid-Michigan a traveling exhibit from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum - Assignment Rescue, The Story of Varian Fry & the Emergency Rescue Committee, 1940-41; create complimentary components to the exhibit to showcase Michigan Jewry's experience, entitled Uneasy Years Images of Prosperous -Depression - Wartime Michigan, 1920s-1940s; and develop and provide a series of public programs centered around the themes of the exhibit.

Filmmaker Pierre Sauvage ("Weapons of the Spirit") explored the topic of rescue and his filmmaking experiences on April 11, 2003, at the Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State Univ.
