Varian Fry and the Michigan Jewish Community-- (2002)
photo collage Grant Awarded: March 2002 Type of Grant: Local Network grant Sponsor: Congregation Shaarey Zedek, MSU Museum and Jewish Studies Program Contact: Julie Avery, Assistant Curator/History, MSU Museum, 517-432-3358, averyj@msu.edu Award: $9,432 Website: www.museum.msu.edu Congregation Shaarey Zedek has been awarded a $9,432 Local Network grant for "Varian Fry and the Michigan Jewish Community." The project will bring to mid-Michigan a traveling exhibit from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum - Assignment Rescue, The Story of Varian Fry & the Emergency Rescue Committee, 1940-41; create complimentary components to the exhibit to showcase Michigan Jewry's experience, entitled Uneasy Years Images of Prosperous -Depression - Wartime Michigan, 1920s-1940s; and develop and provide a series of public programs centered around the themes of the exhibit.
