The Grand Traverse Heritage Center of Traverse City has been awarded a $5,021 Public Humanities Development Grant to create a traveling exhibition entitled: “The History of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.” The exhibition will be on display at the Heritage Center from May 15, 2004 to October 2, 2004, and will be available for touring to the Grand Traverse region.

Exhibition Grand Opening
One With the Land: The Anishnabek Peoples of the Grand Traverse Bay

Featuring performances by the Medicine Lodge Singers, tribal dancers and traditional Ottawa and Ojibwa food samples. The exhibition tells the history of the Ottawa and Ojibwa peoples of the Grand Traverse Bay from their first appearance in Northern Michigan to the federal recognition of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.  It features several interpretive panels and examples of Anishnabek art and crafts on display in the Museum.  The exhibition will be on display from May 15 through September 25th.
