Port Oneida Fair: A Celebration of Rural Culture -- (2003) Grant Awarded: March 2003 Type of Grant: Local Network Grant Sponsor: Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear and the Leelenau Historical Museum Contact: Michael Matts, 312-939-5547, Michael_matts@nthp.org Award: $14,000 Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear of Empire and the Leelenau Historical Museum of Leeland are among a host of organizations that have been awarded a $14,000 Local Network grant to create the “Port Oneida Fair: A Celebration of Rural Culture” from August 8-9, 2003. The fair, which will emphasize the history and culture of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, will take place at six historic farmsteads, including a one-room schoolhouse, at the Port Oneida Rural Historic District within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
