October 3 - 4, 2003
"Wanting Only to be Heard: Writing from Your Life" conference at the Quality Inn in West Branch. On Oct. 3 will be a poetry reading by Larry Levy and a presentation by fiction writer Jack Driscoll, who will read his published story “Wanting Only To Be Heard.” On Oct. 4, Driscoll will give a keynote address and a workshop. Other workshops will be led by Annette LaLonde (personal journals as a source for writing), Marylou Bugh (the art of writing memoir), and Chris Lucka (common documents -- recipes, letters, notes -- as sources for “found poetry.”)

October 16, 2003

"Wanting Only to be Heard: Writing from Your Life" session at Java Junction in West Branch which will focus on “blocked artists” and feature a two-hour class on The Artists Way by Mark Bryan, Julia Cameron, and Catherine Allen as a source for staying connected to writing endeavors.

October 25, 2003
"Wanting Only to be Heard: Writing from Your Life" discussion at Java Junction by the “One Month, One Book, One Evening” book group which will discuss the memoire The Liars Club.

The West Branch Public Library, Mid-Michigan Writers Group of Standish, The Purple Glove Society of Pinconning, and the Book Discussion Club of Rose City have been awarded a $5,791 Local Network Grant for “Wanting Only To Be Heard: Writing From Your Life.” This project funds a writers conference featuring Michigan fiction author Jack Driscoll on October 3-4, 2003, and outreach writing workshops and projects on October 16 and October 28.
