Presentation of Acting Up Theatre Group to 7 & 8 grade students in Rogers City, Onaway and Posen
Title of play: “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of a Hairstyle”

Presentation and discussion of “Expressions of Freedom” to Posen High School (upper grade level students) and review with students their participation through oral history, essay, poetry, music and mixed-medium art forms.

Display and exhibit of students “Expressions of Freedom” tours the area schools in Rogers City,
Posen, and Onaway.

Selected students travel to state capital in Lansing

May 26
Unveiling of community arts project, “Commemorative Mosaic Arts Sculpture” --- large scale mosaic arts sculpture designed and created by Presque Isle County area students from Rogers City, Posen and Onaway.

Unveiling Reception Time: 6:00 pm Date: May 26th Place: Presque Isle District Library (Rogers City).

May 28 – end of July
“Field of Freedom” large scale outdoor metal art sculpture exhibit (M-68 in Onaway). On display: American Eagle, Liberty Bell, George Washington and Hand of Liberty

July 4th - Onaway July 4th Parade (unveiling of new metal arts sculpture)

  • 5:00 pm -- Patriotic Picnic Social at Lakeside Park (Rogers City)
  • 7:00 pm -- Dodworth Saxhorn Band performs patriotic music in the bandshell at Lakeside Park
    America's premier 19th century brass band performing on original instruments from the 19th century

The Presque Isle District Library (PIDL) will coordinate a multi-disciplinary project focused on the theme of freedom that uses music, oral histories, essays, poetry and mixed media. Now through February 2005, PIDL and area schools will express freedom through oral history, essay, poetry, music and mixed-medium art forms. In January 2005, the Acting Up Theatre Group will explore “freedom” with a performance to area school students; in February 2005, teachers and facilitators will partner with PIDL to implement a “We the People” bookshelf to all secondary grade levels; and, from May through July 2005, the Moran Iron Works will display at PIDL locations ‘Field of Freedom” metal art sculptures.
