Award: $27,000

The Michigan Humanities Council awarded $27,000 to the Library of Michigan Foundation (Lansing) for the 2006 Michigan Notable Books Program. The program builds on the successful 2005 Michigan Notable Books Program with a focus on 20 books by Michigan authors. The project begins with an official launch of “A Night of Notables” on May 6, 2006, at the State Library. Author discussions, readings, book signings, and a statewide road tour to 48 libraries will coincide with various festivals and events across the state. In 2005, the Michigan Notable Books Program -- also funded by the Michigan Humanities Council -- reached over 2,000 visitors at 38 different state libraries with visits from 13 different Michigan authors including National Book Award winner Kevin Boyle (Arc of Justice) as well as Elmore Leonard, Judith Guest, and Jim Harrison. (Link here for 2005 Notable Book Program information.)
