The Turner Geriatric Clinic at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) was awarded $13,994 for “Protest and Change: Ann Arbor in the 60s: An Intergenerational Exploration.” Senior adult community residents and high school students will explore the role Ann Arbor played in the social change movement of the 1960s. Seven lectures will be held at the Kellogg Auditorium in Ann Arbor between September 30 and November 11. The lectures will feature an overview of the ’60s movement, the Civil Rights movement, Ann Arbor’s role in the anti-war movement, the emergence of the women’s movement, Ann Arbor’s music and arts scene during the ’60s, the long-term impact of the ’60s, and an interactive dialogue with community members who played a variety of roles in the era. The lecture series will be videotaped for local media and schools and students will be matched with an older adult to conduct oral history interviews.
