The project will create a new permanent interpretive exhibit within the context and location of the U.S. Weather Bureau Building located at the Soo Locks, Sault Ste. Marie, along with an exhibit catalogue. Facility is located within and a component of the Soo Locks Park National Historic Landmark. Sponsor has a new 25-year lease at this historic 1899 facility with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. The permanent exhibit will remain in place indefinitely and provide a cultural interpretation of the structure and the human activity surrounding it with regards to Great Lakes commerce. Subject matter includes local history of the maritime area, weather reporting, the U.S. Life-Saving Service, U.S. Coast Guard, and shipwrecks. Some 400,000 visitors come to the Soo Locks Park each year.
