"Wanting Only to be Heard: Writing from Your Life" conference at the Quality Inn in West Branch. On Oct. 3 will be a poetry reading by Larry Levy and a presentation by fiction writer Jack Driscoll, who will read his published story “Wanting Only To Be Heard.” On Oct. 4, Driscoll will give a keynote address and a workshop. Other workshops will be led by Annette LaLonde (personal journals as a source for writing), Marylou Bugh (the art of writing memoir), and Chris Lucka (common documents -- recipes, letters, notes -- as sources for “found poetry.”)

"Word Wise: A Celebration of Reading and Writing." A keynote speech will be delivered by author Elmore Leonard (Tishomingo Blues, Pagan Babies, Be Cool, Cuba Libra, Out of Sight, Get Shorty) at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 24 at the Clare Sergeant Auditorium of the Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library (JDL). From 10:00 through 1:00 pm, two workshop sessions of four workshops each will be held throughout the Carnegie Branch of the JDL.
