Only to be Heard: Writing from Your Life" conference at the Quality
Inn in West Branch. On Oct. 3 will be a poetry reading by Larry Levy and
a presentation by fiction writer Jack Driscoll, who will read his published
story “Wanting Only To Be Heard.” On Oct. 4, Driscoll will
give a keynote address and a workshop. Other workshops will be led by
Annette LaLonde (personal journals as a source for writing), Marylou Bugh
(the art of writing memoir), and Chris Lucka (common documents -- recipes,
letters, notes -- as sources for “found poetry.”)

"Word Wise: A Celebration of Reading and Writing."
A keynote speech will be delivered by author Elmore Leonard (Tishomingo
Blues, Pagan Babies, Be Cool, Cuba Libra, Out of Sight, Get Shorty) at
9:00 am on Saturday, October 24 at the Clare Sergeant Auditorium of the
Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library (JDL). From 10:00 through
1:00 pm, two workshop sessions of four workshops each will be held throughout
the Carnegie Branch of the JDL. The workshop subjects are: “Web
Based Resources for Writers;” “Getting Your Work Published;”
“Writing Memoirs and Family Histories;” “Crime and Mystery
Writing;” “Writing Comics and Graphic Novels;” and,
“Writing Poetry.” The writers who will participate at the
book signing and the workshops include: Leonard, Deb Dabies, Lonnie Hull
DuPont (The Haiku Box), Ann Purmell (Apple Cider Making Days, Giraffes,
Where Wild Babies Sleep, Christmas Tree Farming), Richard Truxall, Rich
Contrell, Ed Francis (Rhianna, Mistress of the Blade), Paul Sizer (Little
White Mouse), Hector Trujillo (Cry of the Cihulu), Michelle Sawyer (They
