Humanities Pic of the Month

Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library was proud to host the Equinox Celtic Band for a two-hour outdoor concert. On July 8, the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library was proud to host the Equinox Celtic Band for a two-hour outdoor concert. The event drew in more than 200 people and families and was intertwined with the Summer Book Club theme, “One World, Many Stories.”

“Equinox put on a terrific show,” said Christine Wedge with the Alpena library. “All of their players are multitalented, and they played longer than the contract called for. Their first set was supposed to run 40 minutes, but it ran 75, and then they took a short break and came back for more.”

Equinox features six musicians playing fiddles, whistles, bagpipes, a concertina and more. Celtic dances were also performed by members of the band. Equinox Celtic Band can be found in the Michigan Arts & Humanities Touring Program Directory, a joint project of the Michigan Humanities Council and Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs.

Each month Michigan Stories will be featuring a picture of humanities in action. If you would like to see your photo featured, send a GREAT picture(s) of humanities in action with a brief caption describing the photo(s) and program with consent to publish indicated in writing to mistories@mihumanities.org.
