Noteworthy

On June 11, the Council welcomed Regina Schreck to the staff. Gina is responsible for managing Arts & Humanities Touring Grants and future program development and expansion of the Touring Directory. She will also lend her extensive museum experirence to enhancing the Council's traveling exhibit programming. Assisting her as a consultant, Audrey Dowell will be planning several showcase opportunities for the new 2013-15 Touring Directory.

2012 Kresge Artist Fellow for Performing ArtsCongratulations to Ara Topouzian! The Arts & Humanities Touring Directory member was recently announced as a 2012 Kresge Artist Fellow for Performing Artists. The fellowships are awarded to emerging and established artists with the intent to fund their creative vision and voice. Additional literary and performing artist fellows include: Kim Hunter, Heidi Kaloustian, Lolita Hernandez, Peter Markus, Ken Meisel, Cheryl A. Alston, Mark Stryker, Marsha Music, Stephen Jones, Kathleen Pfeiffer, Michael Hurtt, Mary Jo Firfth Gillett, Xiao Dong Wei, Chris Pottinger, Natasha “T” Miller, Passalacqua, Bryce Harding “Mr. Chips,” Maria Costa, Kris Johnson, Don “Doop” Duprie, Terry Peake, Laurie Eisenhower and Shara Worden. Check out “Five Questions with Poet Terry Blackhawk,” in the Detroit Free Press. Blackhawk, a renowned poet, is the founder of InsideOut Literary Arts Project and played a big role in the 2012 Michigan Poetry Out Loud Championship.

Historical Society of MichiganDr. Bernard J. Arbic and the Gulliver Historical Society received the Historical Society of Michigan’s top awards for the preservation of Upper Peninsula history at the 63rd Annual Upper Peninsula History Conference on June 23. Arbic received the Charles Follo Award, and the Gulliver Historical Society received the Superior Award. The Council sends its deepest congratulations to both!
