Past experience: I have a Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate and have taught middle and high school English and yearbook for eleven years. K-12 English Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator for Rudyard Area Schools for 5 years, participated in the writing and adoption of current language arts curriculum. Developed and taught in an in-house alternative education pilot program at Rudyard Middle School. Taught and served as administrator for the International School of Sosua, a private school with an American curriculum in the Dominican Republic. Wrote and published children's book "Willy Sits Waiting". Volunteer in Michigan Reads as a reader at Bayliss Library, Sault Ste. Marie. Planned and participated in Poetry/Literature Reading program. Assisted in the writing of several grants (Goals 2000 for professional development, Michigan Governor's Next Day grant) and planned and wrote a Career Prep grant for a student university visitation project which resulted in over 500 rural students visiting three Michigan college campuses.

Suggestions for public humanities projects: I would like to be involved in getting artists-in-residence programs working in rural schools. I would like to see greater use of desk-top publishing technologies in expanding student and community literacy. I would like to see broader interaction between diverse populations in the state.
